PROPERMAN
What is Performance Management?
Performance Management is a system and process that link the organization's
objectives and strategies to individual and team performance so as to increase
organizational effectiveness. It is a joint process that involves both employees
and their immediate supervisors who jointly identify common objectives which
correlate to the higher goals of the organization. This process results in
the establishment of written performance expectations (a Performance Agreement)
– used later as measures for feedback and performance reviews. Performance
Management is the way of getting overall grip on what should be happening
at all levels in an organization, and then measuring whether it is indeed
happening the way intended; and where this is not happening, of identifying
the causes and implementing corrective actions.
What is PROPERMAN?
PROPERMAN is the acronym for PROactive PERformance
MANagement. It is a close loop system for establishing, well in advance (hence,
proactive), and deploying optimally the framework an organization will use for
• Planning performance toward pre-determined outcomes
– part of which requires a joint agreement with the jobholder;
• Supervising performance to guide it along pre-determined
plans – including developing, leading and motivating teams, providing
a harmonious and peaceful work environment, and ensuring effective communication;
• Reviewing performance to provide reinforcement through
positive feedback – including accurate recording of actual performance,
regular face-to-face sessions to positively discuss performance, and comparison
of the actual with performance agreement at formal periodic exercise; and
• Rewarding performance to boost motivation and capacity
enhancement through financial and non-financial means, including career development.
