COACHMENT
PEKERR ASSOCIATES’ UNIQUE APPROACH
TO LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT
The Conventional Approach to learning and development – consisting typically of listening to lectures, working on case studies, role-playing and carrying out other kinds of exercises over a continuous period of one to perhaps twenty working days in a classroom setting – is popular but ineffective in internalizing learning, and transferring new knowledge, skills and attitude to the workplace. In recognition of these limitations of the conventional approach, Pekerr Associates in 1988 introduced a PROJECT-BASED APPROACH offering every participant a professional blend of personalized coaching and mentoring – thus CoachMent – with the following objective:
ASSISTING COURSE NOMINEES – BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE COURSE – TO DIAGNOSE THEIR WORKING ENVIRONMENT FOR SPECIFIC AREAS WHERE NEW LEARNING MAY BE BENEFICIALLY APPLIED, THROUGH THE USE OF COURSE-RELATED PROJECTS DESIGNED AROUND ACTUAL WORKPLACE PROBLEMS AND UNDERTAKEN WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF PEKERR ASSOCIATES’ CONSULTANTS AND WORKPLACE SUPERVISORS.
All nominations confirmed 3 or more weeks ahead of course dates benefit fully from our project-based approach consisting of:
-
A course project starting three weeks before actual attendance
-
Synergistic exercise during actual attendance
-
Actionable course report and follow-up visits by Pekerr Associates Consultants after actual attendance
PEKERR-IN-FACILITY (PIF) PROGRAMS
Pekerr-In-Facility courses follow the firm’s project-based approach enumerated above. The courses are exclusively tailored to the predetermined needs of the organization and its employees. Following a preliminary identification of the needs – many times with Pekerr consultants working with client organization’s training personnel – PIF programs are designed around the identified needs and executed over 4 phases, generally along the following lines:
-
A pre-attendance phase during which a workplace project, based on specifically identified needs, is assigned to every course nominee 2 to 4 weeks ahead of actual attendance.
-
An attendance phase during which a series of tutored sessions structured around identified needs, workplace project, etc are administered to participants
-
A post-attendance phase during which the workplace project is finalized under the combined supervision of visiting Pekerr consultants and a designated workplace supervisor and
-
An optional follow-up workshop where participants present project reports and the organization evaluates the effectiveness of the program and lays a basis for the transfer of new learning to the workplace.
Advantages of Pekerr-in-facility arrangement include the following:
1. Much lower cost per participant.
2. Amplified interaction among participants.
3. Interpersonal skills of the organization are enhanced.
4. Course materials are better tailored to specific needs of the organization and individuals.
5. Course venue is selected to better suit client requirements.
6. Transfer of knowledge to the workplace is more effective.
7. Course projects are more relevant to workplace problems thus making participants to become part of the solutions. |
